Fundamentals of Spray-Dried Dispersion Technology

March 19, 2015

11 AM ET

Market Segment: Pharmaceutical

Current estimates indicate that more than 70% of new chemical entities require solubilization technology to achieve efficacious plasma exposure. Amorphous solid dispersion technology is a leading approach to improve solubility and dissolution rate of these insoluble compounds by providing a supersaturated concentration of drug in the gastrointestinal environment which often translates to rapid absorption and improved bioavailability.

Bend Research, a division of Capsugel Dosage Form Solutions, will present a webinar that will emphasize the fundamentals of formulating and processing of spray-dried dispersions, including stability assessment, in-vitro performance, and downstream manufacturability.

In this webinar we will show:

  • Key parameters that indicate amorphous dispersions and specifically spray dry dispersions as an optimal enabling approach.
  • How the spray drying process can be scaled from tens of milligrams to metric tons.
  • Best practices for formulation screening and evaluation of stability, performance, and manufacturability of spray-dried dispersions.
  • Methodologies and tools for spray drying process development and scale-up through clinical supply and commercial manufacturing.

Speakers for this webinar are:

  • Amber Broadbent, Ph.D., Director Engineering at Bend Research, a division of Capsugel Dosage Form Solutions
  • Nathan Bennette, Senior Research Chemist at Bend Research, a division of Capsugel Dosage Form Solutions

Meeting the Needs of the Older Patient through Advanced Product Development and Design

March 02, 2015

4 PM CET , 10 AM ET

Market Segment: Pharmaceutical

Drug product development is traditionally being done on a single compound in patients with a single disease or at least strictly randomized and surveyed. This often misses the "real patients" and major user group to which 70 % in volume of our drugs are prescribed to - the patients beyond 65 years.

This webinar will focus on two major areas in the development of age appropriate products:
1. The specific physiological derived needs of older adults
2. Common Issue with medication and dosage form recommendation for older adults

The objective is to draw a basic picture on the real older patients and their needs in complex drug therapy and discuss how this translates into advanced product development and design.

Key Learning Objectives

  • Older patient needs and age related changes
  • Pharmacotherapy in older adults
  • Common issues and problems with medication use in older adults
  • Considerations for dosage form development

Bioprocess Design and Operation - Enhanced Bioreactor Observability and Process Guidance

February 10, 2015

11 AM ET

Market Segment: Pharmaceutical

Bend Research, in collaboration with Pfizer and other major biopharmaceutical companies, is working to advance the Modular Automated Sampling Technology (MAST™) and automated data retrieval and analysis platforms.

This presentation describes how the MAST platform collects samples from bioreactors and initiates automated analysis via analytical equipment. It then describes how the data processing system processes and displays data for the end user for overall cell-level observability, and ultimately aides in data curation for model development.

Speakers for this webinar are:

  • Clint Pepper, Ph.D., Director at Bend Research, a division of Capsugel Dosage Form Solutions
  • Jeffrey Breit, Ph.D., Director at Bend Research, a division of Capsugel Dosage Form Solutions

The webinar session will be moderated by David Lyon, Ph.D., Sr. Vice President, Research at Bend Research, a division of Capsugel Dosage Form Solutions.

Enabling Taste Masking with Lipid Multiparticulate and Osmotic Bursting Technology

January 29, 2015

11 AM ET

Market Segment: Pharmaceutical

Taste is one of the most important parameters governing patient compliance with oral solid dosage forms, especially for specialized populations, such as pediatrics. Many active ingredients in today’s development pipelines have bitter taste, coupled with other formulation needs such as modifying release rates and/or improving solubility. Effective taste masking can translate into better compliance and contribute to the overall therapeutic value for patients.

Current taste masking approaches, with emphasis on two growing technology options – lipid multiparticulate (LMP) technology and osmotic bursting technology—will be reviewed.
Representative case studies will be presented and time reserved for Q&A.

Speakers for the webinar are:

  • Brett Caldwell, PhD – Director at Capsugel Dosage Form Solutions
  • Hywel Williams, PhD -  Senior Scientist at Capsugel Dosage Form Solutions
