Mar, 03, 2016

Company pledges $250,000 to program that provides all eligible Greenwood County high school graduates with tuition assistance for an associate’s degree or certificate

Morristown, N.J. and Greenwood, S.C., March 3, 2016 – Capsugel, a global leader in delivering high-quality, innovative dosage forms and solutions to the healthcare industry, today announced that it has pledged $250,000 over the next five years to The Greenwood Promise, an educational initiative dedicated to increasing the economic growth of Greenwood County, S.C., by fostering a skilled and educated local workforce. The initial phase of the program, which is set to launch with the Spring 2017 high school graduating class, promises all eligible graduates the opportunity to receive an associate’s degree or certificate.

“Building a highly skilled and qualified workforce is a critical element to remaining competitive in today’s fast-paced global economy,” said Guido Driesen, President and Chief Executive Officer, Capsugel. “We are proud to support The Greenwood Promise and to invest in the education of young adults from the Greenwood community – some of whom may one day join our talented local team, which is helping bring better medicines and nutritionals to patients and consumers.”

Capsugel has a 48-year history in Greenwood and approximately 700 local employees. The company’s Greenwood facility is part of a global network that designs, develops and manufactures high-quality, innovative dosage forms and solutions to customers around the world.

“Capsugel’s generous commitment to The Greenwood Promise will have an immediate impact on the Greenwood community and create hope for future generations,” said Jim Pfeiffer, Campaign Chair and President/CEO, Self Regional Healthcare. “Investing in educational opportunities for the youth in Greenwood County will also help Capsugel remain competitive for years to come.”

With Capsugel’s donation, The Greenwood Promise will reach nearly $4 million of its $5 million goal for its ongoing campaign.

“Capsugel has brought the same level of commitment to building our community that it has to building its global business,” said Megha Lal, Division Chair, President’s Society, The Greenwood Promise. “Through its support of The Greenwood Promise, Capsugel reminds us all of the need to always think global and act local.”

Greenwood County is the first community in South Carolina to launch an educational program of this magnitude. The Greenwood Promise leadership believes this will be a catalyst to positively change the culture of education; attract corporate decision-makers, their families, and their employees; while also providing a pipeline of the highly skilled, well-educated workers necessary to fill jobs for existing industry and relocating companies.

"My personal appreciation goes to Guido Driesen for his long-time support and loyalty to the Greenwood community,” said Ron Millender, Chairman, Steering Committee, The Greenwood Promise. “Once again, Capsugel has re-affirmed its role as one of Greenwood's leading businesses for the long-term."
